Fast Forward Topeka

Hey Everyone!  I thought I would be able to make it to Leadership tonight, but my schedule is just crazy this week.  I just wanted to share a few thoughts.

First, I think that we should work with the Atchison Chamber to establish this group.  We would need to have a discussion with the Chamber about its mission and how it fits in with our vision.  There are obvious benefits to housing this group within the Chamber--staff support, financial support, marketing, access to mailing lists/list serves, opportunity to start a column in the newsletter, etc.  This is something we should seriously consider.

Here's a couple of links to check out:

Topeka's YP group is called Fast Forward Topeka.  It is associated with the Topeka Chamber of Commerce.  I think they could be a great resource for us.

Fast Forward hosted last year's YP Summit, which is a state-wide gathering for young professionals.  I know some people who went last year who were really energized by the program.  I don't think their website is up to date, but it has some great programming ideas that we could tap into for the professional development portion of our group.

I haven't come up with a good name, but I think it needs to be something that will appeal to a broad spectrum of people.  I'll be looking forward to hearing what you come up with.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Class Project Notes and Ideas

To have a group in Atchison for "young professionals" to join and feel apart of something. This group would have three main branches
1. Professional Development
2. Networking/Social
3. Philanthropy

Philanthropy etymologically means "love of humanity" in the sense of caring for, nourishing, developing, and enhancing "what it is to be human" on both the benefactors' (by identifying and exercising their values in giving and volunteering) and beneficiaries' (by benefiting) parts. (Wikipedia)

Ideas for events:
1. Brew for Boots
2. Table for 10
3. Cocktails for a Cause
4. Coat Drive
5. Canned Food Drive
6. Book Drive
7. School Supplies
8. Trivia for Toys

This group could potentially hit all of the target areas we wanted the kids, the poor and the elderly.

Things to think about...how do we make sure people have fun, get something out of the event and come to another?
