Class Project Idea-Tourism Video

After watching some pretty amazing tourism videos I thought we could do the same. We talk about all the amazing things Atchison has to offer but there is not one video that says it all.

Community Project Idea

If it does no already exist in Atchison already, I think a "Newcomers" group would be a great project, which would help new families that move into town get aquatinted.

An important part of being a leader

I have been living in the my house for about four months now, and I have a next door neighbor that I have only seen a few times so far. Every time I would see him it would only be for a split second because we were both rushing off to do whatever we had that day. Finally, this weekend I was able to officially meet my neighbor and learn his name and a little about him. To be a leader in a community I think it is important to get to know the people in the community, and there is no excuse for not knowing those closest to you, such as a next door neighbor.

Recap of last class

Last class we did the team building exercise with using pieces of spaghetti, some tape, string, and 1 marshmallow. Each team tried to build the tallest tower that could hold the marshmallow on top for more than 5 seconds. The first time we did it we were limited to 18 minutes. I feel that each team really had to think of a strategy for how they were going to make the base of the tower. At the end of the first time marshmallows were falling everywhere and only one tower stayed up. That tower was only 22 inches high. The second time we did it we only had 12 minutes but I feel that each team had a better understanding of how to actually work with the resources that we were given. Two of the three towers stayed up and the tallest reached about 29 inches. All in all I feel that this exercise was fun and it helped each one of us see how to work with people that were randomly picked before the exercise.
